The Arrowhead – The Symbol Above San Bernardino

Look toward the mountains from San Bernardino and you may notice a huge arrowhead-shaped formation on the slope. It is one of the city’s most distinctive natural landmarks and has been associated with the area for generations.

The shape is visible because vegetation and geology create a lighter patch against the surrounding mountainside. Local stories have added layers of meaning to the landmark over time.

You do not need to hike to it

I would treat the Arrowhead primarily as a landmark to view from the valley, not as a casual tourist hike. Mountain terrain and access are very different from visiting a developed viewpoint.

Instead, notice it as you move around northern San Bernardino and use it as a visual introduction to the mountains that define the city’s setting.

Why it matters

The Arrowhead appears throughout local identity and place names. It will not occupy half a day of your itinerary, but those small place-specific details are often what separate visiting a city from simply driving through it.
